I normally make the King Arthur GF brownies, however, they have really started messing with my system- lots of stomachaches- probably due to the milk in them (?). So I try a new brand. These are not nearly as good. The King Arthur batter tastes amazing….. although it does have raw eggs in it so you shouldn’t technically be eating it (this is so I don’t get in trouble if you get salmonella from licking the spoon). But it’s amazing. Glutino was very very grainy.
I used vegetable oil (although I hate it, its the best for brownie taste), instead of butter. I have made brownies with butter and they always have a weird after taste. Even the King Arthur. I made the full fat version, because if you’re going to have brownies, have a god damn brownie, not some low fat BS.
Here are ingredients: Sugar, Chocolate Chips (Sugar, Chocolate Liquor, Cocoa Butter, Soy Lecithin, Vanillin), Cocoa Powder, White Rice Flour, Potato Starch, Corn Starch, Xanthan Gum, Salt.
I have a problem with Soy Lecithin as I have previously talked about, white rice flour (processed), corn starch (GMO), xanthan gum (already done a huge paragraph on that).
I baked them and had one while they were warm, I couldn’t wait. They were pretty good. Didn’t come out very pretty because the recipe does call for them to be frozen then cut, however, King Arthur is the same way. Always gets stuck to the knife. Warm they were pretty good.
I had them again cooled (that’s right, I actually ate batter, warm brownie, AND cold brownie all in two hours). They were not nearly as good. Kind of have a funky taste. It’s ok, but not nearly as good. I’ll search for another brand and let you know when I find one. I assume this will be a nice addition to say, a brownie sundae, but just by itself I wouldn’t say its worth the pricetag. (which is only $4.50 @ Vitacost.com). I’d rather have the King Arthur tummyache.
